Abstract
ABSTRACT
Endangered plant species are vital components of terrestrial ecosystems, contributing significantly to ecological balance, biodiversity conservation, climate regulation, and sustainable livelihoods. However, rapid habitat destruction, deforestation, urbanisation, agricultural expansion, climate change, pollution, overexploitation, and illegal collection have accelerated the decline of many plant species, increasing their risk of extinction. The present study aims to identify endangered plant species, examine their ecological and economic importance, assess the major threats affecting their survival, evaluate existing conservation practices and public awareness, and propose suitable conservation measures. The study was conducted in Sariska Tiger Reserve, Alwar District, Rajasthan, using a descriptive and exploratory research design. Primary data were collected through field visits, plant observation, interviews, questionnaires, and photographic documentation, while secondary data were obtained from books, research articles, government reports, botanical records, biodiversity databases, and conservation reports. The findings revealed that habitat destruction, deforestation, climate change, and overexploitation are the principal threats to endangered plant species. Existing conservation initiatives, including protected areas, botanical gardens, seed banks, and community participation, have contributed to biodiversity protection, although greater public awareness and scientific monitoring remain necessary. The study recommends strengthening habitat conservation, promoting community-based conservation, expanding ex-situ conservation facilities, enhancing environmental education, utilizing modern monitoring technologies, and encouraging collaboration among government agencies, researchers, educational institutions, and local communities to ensure the long-term conservation of endangered plant species.
