Abstract
ABSTRACT
Sports science is witnessing a remarkable convergence of molecular biology and sensor-based engineering. This review examines how nutrigenomics—the study of gene–diet interactions—can be combined with wearable monitoring technologies to individualise training loads and nutritional
plans, with the ultimate aim of strengthening injury resilience in athletes and physically active individuals. Drawing on a systematic scoping review of 85 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and April 2025, the paper maps key genetic polymorphisms that shape injury susceptibility, notably
variants in COL1A1, COL5A1, ACTN3, and IL6. It also examines how contemporary wearable devices capture internal and external training-load metrics, and evaluates emerging frameworks that fuse genomic profiles with real-time biosensor feedback. Evidence indicates that genotype-informed
personalisation of training and recovery can meaningfully reduce overuse injuries and improve adaptive capacity. Persistent challenges—including data heterogeneity, ethical concerns around genetic privacy, and limited validation across diverse populations—are critically discussed. The paper closes by advocating transdisciplinary collaboration and well-powered
longitudinal trials to advance these integrated systems toward routine clinical and coaching practice.
