ABSTRACT
Hospitals are the health care institutions which have existed
since time immemorial in one form or another and have
become more complex with time because more health problems
and advances in treatment technology. The general public now
a day is more conscious regarding oral health and as a result
there is significant increase in the dental hospitals, clinics and
dental teaching institutes and correspondingly there is
tremendous increase in the amount of biomedical waste
generated by the dental hospitals, clinics and dental teaching
institutes. The biomedical waste generated in dentistry has
recently emerged as an issue of major concern not only to
hospitals and clinics and other establishments but also to
environmentalists and general public.
In this paper an attempt has been made to review the waste
generated in the dentistry. The emphasis has been laid to throw
a light on the effect of this waste on environment and human
health to create awareness among dental professionals and
general public regarding its management and disposal
